Sophia + Fayaz..the engagement session | Calgary Engagement Photographers

I am still totally floored by the generosity and love Sophia has for Fayaz, she decided to donate her kidney to her future husband..sigh. I was so happy when they gave me permission to post one of the pictures I took of them showing their surgery scars. This picture ( below ) will always touch my heart and be very special to me, there are some incredibly amazing people out there and I am so glad we get to document another big event in their life..their wedding. Here is their story before we get into the rest of the engagement photos.

Our KIDNEY Story… By Sophia
About 5 years ago, Fayaz was told he has to start dialysis treatments. This occurred about a year before we met. Fayaz handled things well and he didn’t let dialysis treatments get in his way of doing the things he loved including traveling, earning a degree and working. About a year ago, I decided I wanted to donate my kidney to Fayaz. I talked to Fayaz, my friends, my doctor and my family about it. They were all supportive of my choice, especially my parents.  The support from friends and family was the most important strength for Fayaz and I throughout the entire process.  After 6 months of assessments I found out that I am a match and all we had to do was pick a date. On June 21, 2011 I gave my kidney to Fayaz. Everything went smoothly, the surgeons were amazing and the kidney began to work right away. We were admitted together in the hospital for a week; after that we spent 3 months recovering together… and planning a wedding;)We are now both back to work and back to our regular routines. We are now looking forward to our wedding and a nice long honeymoon all over Europe.

Your idea of a perfect date?
Chasing waves on a beach and then going for a nice dinner.

When’s the big day?

June 9, 2012

How did you meet?
On the first day of University, we were both in the same orientation class; Thomas came in late and he caught my eye. The orientation was a few days long but after that initial day we knew we wanted to get to know each other more and we ended up grabbing lunch together during the orientation days and by the end of the first weekend we went on our first official date! We have been together ever since, and we are excited to start our life as a married couple!

How did he/she propose?
Thomas got my ring custom made and the day before the proposal he picked the ring up, it was a secret; I had no idea, he told me that he was going out to pick up breakfast. The next day was February 14, which is well… Valentine’s day, but this wasn’t the reason that Thomas picked that day, it was a combination of the fact that the picked the ring up the day before and was so excited to show it to me and also because it was Chinese New Year, of which I am half Asian and also because it was the Year of the Tiger, the same Chinese horoscope as mine.

He took me to a playground by his grandma’s house which has sentimental value as that is one of the stops we made on our first date and he also played there as a child a lot. We were sitting on the swings when he knelt down on one knee and asked me to marry him. ?

Your idea of a perfect date?
Our idea of a perfect date is going out for a lovely dinner, having some drinks and taking a walk after (especially down Stephen avenue in the summer!).

What’s your favorite thing to do together?
Going on vacation and exploring new places together!

Favorite Starbucks drink?
he says: Vanilla Latte
she says: Green Tea Latte

Places in the world you must go see?
There are many places that we would love to see, a few of the top ones are, visiting the Mediterranean, Fiji, St. Lucia and one of Heather’s top place is the Serengeti.

ashley - shelley..those pics wer awesome and i really lv it..

Daniela - Gorgeous images Shelley. I love that last set of black & white images…just beautiful!
