Where do I even begin…Ashley means the world to me, she has the biggest heart and zest for life. She makes friends wherever she goes and I just feel so lucky to have such a positive person in my life.  Years ago we were looking to get a new “look” and logo designed for our business and a mutual friend put us in contact with Ashley as she is a talented graphic designer. We totally hit it off. We are so similar…it was amazing just to chat about anything and everything with her. Our working relationship grew into a friendship and now I am beyond thrilled to be capturing their wedding. I am going to have wads of kleenex stuffed in my pockets and bra on their wedding day because I have a feeling its going to be a very emotional.

We started our session off at the Fairmont Empress  as Ashley ALWAYS stays with them when she travels…lucky girl! It is such a landmark in Victoria and the colors of the leaves were amazing. It was raining pretty hard but that didn’t stop us…we then went to the warf as I thought Anthony might like it there as he is originally from out east. The bonus was no one was around because of the rain! We then hit up a couple of beaches before finishing up our session. You guys are amazing..you got soaked, almost washed out to sea ( not really haha) and never complained. I was so thrilled when you flew out to Victoria to have your engagement photos done. We had a blast shooting, sightseeing, playing darts and having some drinks at the pub! We cannot wait for your wedding!
Our story.
It was Ranchmans 2007. It was Anthony’s last stop. It was Ashley’s last resort. It was the crowded dance floor. It was St. Patricks Day. It was leprechauns. It was cowgirls. It was country music. It was a bump of a shoulder. It was a smile. It was a gesture to dance. It was roaring laughter. It was the fun. It was Irish luck. It was surprising. It was a big city girl. It was a small town boy. It was meant to be. It was the beginning of “us”.

Now, August 15, 2015 with be another exciting beginning of “us”!

The proposal.
Easter Sunday dinner I was gifted a giant handmade chocolate Easter egg that was full of delicious squares and… my ring! By the time I realized what I was actually having for dessert, he had moved his chair and was down on one knee, baring his whole heart in front of my amazing family. As I listened to his words and saw him put the ring on my hand, the tears just started- as did the camera flashes, the oooo’s and awwww’s. I couldn’t believe he had the courage to ask me in front of the most important people in my life and that they all knew but me! l absolutely said yes!! He truly went above and beyond to make that moment special.

victoria_wedding_photographers001Heather + Darren were married in beautiful Fernie BC over the Thanksgiving weekend. Surrounded by friends and family they shared their vows and love for each other while hoping those dramatic stormy skies would not bring rain! It was a beautiful day and the details were just perfect which was quite a feat as both of them live out of country. The wine was from one of their favorite wineries… J.Rickards, the wedding favors were wedding blend tea from Murchie’s.  This is one of our last weddings of the year and felt lucky the weather co-operated, plus we had a great group of people to hang out with! What more could we ask for?! Enjoy… victoria_wedding_photographers002 victoria_wedding_photographers003 victoria_wedding_photographers004 victoria_wedding_photographers005 victoria_wedding_photographers006 victoria_wedding_photographers007 victoria_wedding_photographers008 victoria_wedding_photographers009 victoria_wedding_photographers010 victoria_wedding_photographers011 victoria_wedding_photographers012 victoria_wedding_photographers013 victoria_wedding_photographers014 victoria_wedding_photographers015 victoria_wedding_photographers016 victoria_wedding_photographers017 victoria_wedding_photographers018 victoria_wedding_photographers019 victoria_wedding_photographers020 victoria_wedding_photographers021 victoria_wedding_photographers022 victoria_wedding_photographers023 victoria_wedding_photographers024 victoria_wedding_photographers025 victoria_wedding_photographers026 victoria_wedding_photographers027 victoria_wedding_photographers028 victoria_wedding_photographers029 victoria_wedding_photographers030 victoria_wedding_photographers031 victoria_wedding_photographers032 victoria_wedding_photographers033 victoria_wedding_photographers034 victoria_wedding_photographers035 victoria_wedding_photographers036 victoria_wedding_photographers037 victoria_wedding_photographers039 victoria_wedding_photographers040 victoria_wedding_photographers040a victoria_wedding_photographers041 victoria_wedding_photographers042 victoria_wedding_photographers043 victoria_wedding_photographers044 victoria_wedding_photographers045 victoria_wedding_photographers046 victoria_wedding_photographers047 victoria_wedding_photographers048 victoria_wedding_photographers049

I know we will mention a lot of times that we had a lot of fun with a couple..it’s totally true but this session completely raised the bar due to the sillyness and amount of laughing that went on. I had to crank up my shutter speed to compensate for my fits of giggling. That is the truth. Matt is hilarious…he is spontaneous and finds the fun in whatever he is doing. I think they are such a great match as it appears Cathy has been blessed with her own awesome sense of humor and lots of patience;-)Thanks again guys for making the trek down from Edmonton and we are looking forward to your wedding day as I am sure it will be a blast!

When’s the big day?
June 20, 2015

How did you meet?
We met at Block 1912, a unique coffee shop in Edmonton. We were studying at different tables, started talking, and then we went on our first date shortly after that!

How did he/she propose?
Over the Christmas holidays, we travelled to the mountains to go snowshoeing together. It was a beautiful sunny day for us to make our way up the mountain trail. Midway up the mountain, I got tired so we found a beautiful clearing in the forest within several fallen trees. As I sat on a fallen tree branch, Matt got down on one knee and proposed. It was very touching and in a serene beautiful area with falling snowflakes.

Favorite thing about each other?
he says: I can’t just pick one favourite thing I like about Cathy, because she is overall a beautiful, loving, and intelligent woman.
she says: Matt’s ability to make me laugh and his supportive, and caring nature are all of my favourite things.

Your idea of a perfect date?
he says: Breakfast feast, snowboarding, dinner, ice cream, and relaxing in front of a fireplace.
she says: Cooking dinner or grabbing take out, wine, and a movie at home.

Kisses, hugs or snuggles?
he says: All of the above
she says: snuggles

What’s your favorite thing to do together?
Something outdoorsy, going for walks, biking, and snowboarding

Your favorite hangout?
Costco, just joking but Matt does love Costco! We love going to the restaurant that we had our first date at. We also enjoying going to Sunshine Village in Banff and Prince’s Island park when we visit Calgary.

One place in the world you must go see?
he says: Pyramids in Egypt
she says: Spain

What are you looking forward to the most on your wedding day?
he says: Celebrating with family and friends
she says: Walking down the aisle together in front of our family and friends after sharing our vows.

victoria_wedding_photographers001This was a wedding we had been looking forward to for awhile…it was going to be at our favorite time of year (fall), with two wonderful people in love and only their closest friends and family were going to be there to help them celebrate. The day did not disappoint…

I can’t remember exactly when Ellen started following our photography but she was a fellow photographer/fan and an online friendship grew as time went on. I started seeing posts on Facebook about this man she had met…she was so happy and it just came through in every post and word she spoke of her new love. One day we got the call ! She was engaged and we were the photographers for her. I always feel so honored when this happens…when someone cares enough about what we do to make sure we are part of their day. We had to find a date that we were open and the rest is history.

I have to admit I totally teared up when I saw Ellen walk down the aisle with her two boys who mean the world to her. She looked radiant..a smile that could light up a room and the most perfect dress. I am so thankful we were part of your day and everything was amazing..including those little birds that came and landed on your fingertips.

We wish you all the happiness and love in the years to come.

  • Ellen Harris Mann - This was the perfect day. Shelley and Jeff, there was nobody else I would have trusted to capture the details of our wedding day. Thank you for being you. Sensitive, kind, observant and funny. Everything you want in wedding photographers…and friends. I can’t tell you how often I’ve looked at the photos and slide show, and I know a champagne toast and slide show viewing will be part of every anniversary we celebrate going forward. We just celebrated the wedding of my beautiful step daughter this past weekend in Washington, and my one piece of advice was the two places NOT to skimp on are food and drink for the guests, and photos.

We had a beautiful fall evening and as you can see that golden light was STUNNING!!! We got pretty lucky=) Not to mention these two were so great to photograph. I noticed when we were shooting that their eyes light up when they look at one another. I can always ask people to look at each other but that sparkle is something some couples have or they don’t. These guys have that.

How did you meet?

At a Christmas party

How did he/she propose?
Lindsay lives in Regina to complete her Ph.D., I decided to drive to her apartment in Regina to surprise her there. In coordination with her best friend, I was able to get a spare key to Lindsay’s apartment and set up for the proposal. Finally she arrived, and while we were on the phone together, she opened the door to the apartment and uttered out “What, is going on, is someone in my apartment? Why are there flowers and champagne on the table? Are you here?”. After walking out of her bedroom, surprising her and giving her a hug I sat her down at the dining room table. I delivered my speech and got down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage. Of course, the answer was in my favor. Lindsay said yes, she was totally taken by surprise.
